Pregnant Mom ID'd As 7 Remain Hospitalized After I-81 Crash In PA

A 24-year-old pregnant mom has been identified as her three children  and husband remain in the hospital following a serious crash on Interstate 81 on Friday, April 14, 2023, authorities told Daily Voice on Tuesday, April 18.

Claudia K. Flores-Garcia (also known as Claudia Garcia Flores) of Chambersburg was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash after the blue Toyota Camry she was riding in back right seat after the car was struck by a white Dodge Ram 1500 as the car was merging from Lincoln Highway East (PA Route 30) onto the southbound ramp of I-81 at 10:22 p.m., according to PSP Chambersburg.

The Camry spun out ending 180 degrees from where it started and the Ram 1500 rolled landing on the drivers side also in the opposite direction than it started. 

The Ram's driver and two passengers were taken to local hospitals, state police explained. And Claudia's children Valeria, Anderson and Ángela Flores and their father Efrain Santiago were MedEvacated to separate hospitals, Norma Salguero of Frederick, MD explained in a GoFundMe fundraising campaign that she started for the family. 

In total, five helicopters were called to the scene, according to the Franklin Fire Company. 

The Camry was cited for not having "proper clearance" by state police.

Claudia was in her third trimester and the baby did not survive, according to the family, friends, and first responders.

Salguero launched the GoFundMe to help cover the for the medical expenses, help support the children— especially as as Santiago remains in a coma— and to cover the funeral expenses for Claudia and her baby.
